For me, triathlon has come late in life. I did my first Nike olympic distance triathlon the day after I graduated from the University of Oregon (1999) with my Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. Little did I Know that 5 years later at the age of 41 I would find triathlon to be a passion and that I would be coaching too.
I didn’t grow up athletic. I didn’t even know how to swim! I started with short distance races locally in New York’s Hudson Valley, but soon discovered that I really enjoyed the longer endurance events. Within a year, I was traveling doing ultra-distance mountain bike racing and half-ironman triathlons. I finished my first half-ironman in under 6 hours and qualified for the coveted Survival of the Shawangunks (SOS) in New York’s Hudson Valley. I might not be the fastest (but some of my clients are), but I love the sport. I enjoy the training and the journey to the finish line. I hope that my accomplishments will inspire women of all ages to do triathlon or to take on new challenges in life.

Swim. Bike. Run. Have Fun.
Three separate events that seem doable. Together they can be intimidating. Whether a beginner or a seasoned athlete, training for triathlon is more than doing three sports. It's a combination of doing the right type of training, the right amount of training and the right amount of rest & recovery. It's also about time management and commitment to family, friends and work. "It can be overwhelming for the beginner as well as the more experienced athlete to know how to organize time and training for three sports."
"As a coach it's my responsibility to make triathlon training simple. I'm able to design weekly, monthly and yearly training programs that structure the appropriate amount of time needed for swimming, cycling, running, recovery and life." Triathlon can be challenging but it should also be fun. "Training in the Hudson Valley is incredible. This area offers a wide variety of places to train. There are beautiful trails and carriage roads in the Shawangunks, great climbs in the Catskill mountains in Ulster and Sullivan County and pristine lakes for swimming in both Ulster and Dutchess County.
