For me, triathlon has come late in life. I didn’t grow up athletic. I didn’t even know how to swim! My first Nike olympic distance triathlon was the day after I graduated from the University of Oregon (1998) with my Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. Little did I know that triathlon would become a passion and a lifestyle.
After I moved back to the Hudson Valley and started racing, I soon discovered that I really enjoyed training for and racing ultra-distance events. I focused on half- and full-ironman triathlons as well as the Survival of the Shawangunks (SOS) in New York’s Hudson Valley.
I truly enjoy the training and the journey to the finish line. I hope that my accomplishments will inspire women (and men!) of all ages to do triathlon or to take on new challenges in life.
My Training Philosophy
In 1999, I opened Personal Strength & Training, Inc, a private fully-appointed exercise studio and training center in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Later on I expanded my coaching business with the inception of TriSportsTraining.com. My approach to health & fitness is interdisciplinary. I take the whole body and mind into consideration when designing exercise and training programs.
This new adjunct to the business reflects my growing interest in inspiring women of all ages to take on new challenges for themselves through sport-specific training. I enjoy encouraging women to take on new challenges in their lives. Whether they’re learning to run, are training to do a long distance bike trip or hoping to participate in their first triathlon, I’m able to offer personalized coaching and training advice that meets each individual’s needs. Many of my clients are women in their 40's and 50's who are now participating in events they never even dreamed of.
Swim. Bike. Run. Have Fun.
Three separate events that seem doable. Together they can be intimidating. Whether a beginner or a seasoned athlete, training for triathlon is more than doing three sports. It's a combination of doing the right type of training, the right amount of training and the right amount of rest & recovery. It's also about time management and commitment to family, friends and work. It can be overwhelming for the beginner as well as the more experienced athlete to know how to organize time and training for three sports.
As a coach it's my responsibility to make triathlon training simple. I'm able to design weekly, monthly and yearly training programs that structure the appropriate amount of time needed for swimming, cycling, running, recovery and life. Triathlon can be challenging but it should also be fun. The Hudson Valley is incredible and has so much to offer athletes of all abilities. I hope we can all take advantage of this special area.
